Responsibilities:  Matt is the founder and owner of Bon Sales & Marketing and has all of the responsibilities pertaining thereto.  In addition to handling the regular client interaction and sales responsibilities associated with a brokerage company, Matt is also responsible for our manufacturer representation portfolio, new client interviews and brokerage agreements.

Background:  After spending some time in his teenage years working in a small local market, Matt purchased Glen Ellen Grocery with a close friend and business partner.  Six successful years of managing his own market gave Matt the skills and knowledge he needed to assume the roles of Supervisor, Buyer, Merchandiser and Director of Service Deli for Johnny’s Food Centers, a 9 store grocery chain located in Kent, Washington where he relocated with his family.  It was while performing his buying functions at Johnny’s that Matt’s interest in the food brokerage industry began to grow.  When Johnny’s was acquired in 1993 by Quality Food Centers (QFC), a subsidiary of  Kroger, Matt seized the opportunity to make the transition.  Matt spent some of his favorite years in the food industry as a food broker working for Foodservice Brokerage Company in Renton, Washington.  Matt had a passion and keen sense for his new trade and, as the company’s Deli Division Sales Manager, he led his division to achieving an astounding 35 million in sales.

After 15 years in the Northwest, Matt and his family decided that it was time to relocate back to California to be closer to family.  Although his fondness for the brokerage business had not subsided, Matt saw an opportunity to utilize his experience to secure a position with the Heinz Deli Division as their Western Regional Sales Manager in 2001.  In this position Matt managed over 20 brokers, grew his sales to over 16 million, and was recognized by Heinz in 2003 for his outstanding performance.  As his contacts in the local industry network grew, Matt was solicited by DCI / G&G Specialty Foods in 2005 to become their Western Regional Sales Manager, a position which he accepted.  During his time with DCI / G&G, Matt was responsible for 20-35% sales increases throughout his region and was the companies key Safeway account representative.

Although wildly successful throughout his diverse career in the food industry, Matt’s greatest fulfillment had come from being a food broker.  By this time Matt was familiar enough with the Northern California Market and had developed a network of industry contacts robust enough to start his own brokerage company so, in 2008, Matt formed Bon Sales & Marketing.  By starting his own company Matt was presented a unique opportunity to build his business around his own personal values of hard work, quality of service and a level of personalization that cannot be matched by larger brokerage companies… truly a noble legacy worthy of being carried on for generations to come.
